Today is Trinity Sunday. It expresses the union for all times, of God and God’s people. It is the day when the fullness of God’s presence, in all aspects of the life of God’s people, is recognized and lifted up.

Today, we find ourselves at a midway point in our travel through the Christian Year. Since Advent, our focus has been largely on major events in the life of Jesus: His coming and manifestation, His suffering and triumph, and His gift of the Spirit. Until Advent comes again, our focus will be primarily on what Jesus taught by word and action. Thus, we will learn how to live in the power the Spirit has given to us.

The Church reminds its members of this understanding of God, at all times. Christians are Baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Every time we make the sign of the Cross, we remind ourselves that we belong to Christ, and we express our belief in the Triune God. The blessings of the Church are given in the Trinitarian formula, “The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Three in One and One in Three.

There are some religious organizations that do not share this view of the Trinity. I believe, that no one can be genuinely Christian unless one believes in the Trinity. To express disbelief, is to strip God of His Personality and make Him less than who He is, all-powerful. Any attempt to limit the power of God, or explain who He is, without expressing Him as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is incorrect.

So, we live out this life within a faith belief of a God who is Father that made us, and everything that exists in the world. Because we have turned to our ways, ignoring the ways of God, we sin. For His purpose alone, God wants to save us from a life without Him and sent His Son as Redeemer of the world. He has given us His Holy Spirit, not only to sanctify and comfort us, but to assist us in living according to His will.
